Today I sent a donation appeal email to my colleagues at MessageLabs, Ltd. Soon I got lots of responses and all the replies are encouraging and supporting. Three hours later, my company VP confirmed that MessageLabs would dedicate next Wed (May 21st) as a company wide fundraising day for Burma and China. I was so pleased by the responses and the quick action from ML.
To bring the attention to more people, I created this blog to cover the latest reports on the earthquake from the main news sources. To make the donation easier, I have collected the main charity donation links from the globe and you can easily make your direct donation to China Earthquake by clicking one of the charity organization links on the right of the page.
It has been reported that this quake was even worse than the 1976 China Tangshan quake which killed more than 250, 000. When I look at the shocking pictures of the people trapped under the collapsed buildings, I started to ask myself why their life journey suddenly stopped in seconds. They even didn’t have time to realize how their lives ended; when I look at the eyes of the children who were still waiting for the rescuing, I just hope that they could hold out just a bit longer. One more second they could hold out, the more chance they can be rescued. We all know that it is almost impossible for us to stop such natural disasters on the planet, but what can we do when the tragedy happened? Can we help the survivors build up their confidence again for living? Can we help the survived children go back to school again? Can we give our love and support to the orphans who lost their parents in the quake? The answer is yes! They may never know who you are and where you are, but please believe that whatever support you can give, it will make a difference for them.
Irrespective of your race, colour, religion, politics or culture, please show your generosity now and help those victims, especially the children. No matter how much you can donate, please believe that every little helps! Your donation means a lot to them.
Please share this appeal with your colleagues/friends as well. Please believe that we can really make a big difference for the victims if we action now.
Ps. I attach my email sent to my colleagues for your reference:
All,
Apologies to those of you who do not know me or have no time to read this email – please feel free to delete this now.
A major earthquake struck southwestern China on Monday 12 May. It is thought that more than 50,000 people may have died in the 7.9-magnitude quake. The situation is far worse than we thought.
Irrespective of race, colour, religion, politics or culture, please show your generosity now and help those victims, especially the children. No matter how much you can donate, your donation means a lot to them.
